Released Oct 6, 2026

Release Notes

Pages kept out of search stop counting against title, description and heading checks, and four fixes from community bug reports cut false positives in structured data, image and accessibility checks.

Changed

  • Pages kept out of search are no longer graded on how they would look in search results. On a page whose robots meta tag or X-Robots-Tag header says noindex, core/meta-title, core/meta-description and core/h1 record a skipped check instead of a finding, and core/title-unique, content/duplicate-title, content/duplicate-description and links/orphan-pages leave the page out. Scores can rise for sites with noindex pages such as thank-you pages, internal search or account pages, because those findings no longer count. Accessibility, security, performance and broken-link rules still check every page. When the homepage itself is noindex, as on a staging site or a Vercel, Netlify or Cloudflare Pages preview deployment, nothing is skipped, so a pre-launch audit still checks titles, descriptions and headings everywhere. The rules reference has the details. Thanks to @deniskern for the report (#457).

Fixed

  • schema/json-ld-valid accepts an ImageObject (or an {"@id"} reference) for image and logo, and resolves @id references across the page's JSON-LD, so @unhead/schema-org (Nuxt) pages validate clean. Validation errors are no longer repeated under "Invalid JSON-LD syntax", and a page reused from the crawl cache is validated again instead of replaying the previous release's results. Thanks to @deniskern for the report (#463).
  • images/responsive-size reports a small image only when its measured file is heavier than its displayed size needs, instead of flagging every thumbnail without srcset. Thanks to @deniskern for the report (#464).
  • a11y/color-contrast reports only contrast it measured: an inline text and background color pair under 4.5:1. Guesses from class names and stylesheets, such as text-gray-300, are no longer findings. Thanks to @deniskern for the report (#465).
  • a11y/aria-dialog-name identifies an unnamed dialog with no id by its classes and start tag (dialog.newsletter-popup) instead of a bare dialog. Thanks to @deniskern for the report (#462).
  • Entity map findings link to the entity map guide at its new home, https://docs.squirrelscan.com/guides/entity-map/fixing.

Security

  • Dependencies are updated for published security advisories, including smol-toml, which reads squirrel.toml.
